Welcome to Columbia County

Columbia County is situated in the Northern Hudson River Valley in Upstate New York. It is conveniently located only two hours from New York City, two hours from Boston, and 30 minutes from Albany. Nestled between the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains to the west and the Taconic and Berkshire mountain ranges to the east, the magnificent scenery inspired the artists whose works have become known as the Hudson River School of Painters.  The area is characterized by endless bucolic farmlands, back country roads, winding streams and picturesque lakes. Designated as a National Heritage Area, the valley is steeped in history, natural beauty, culture, and a burgeoning food and farmer’s market scene.

Ski at Catamount and hike the many trails at Taconic State Park and Bash Bish Falls. Imbibe at local vineyards, cideries, distilleries, and breweries scattered throughout the county.
Enjoy diverse activities from antiquing in the city of Hudson, to exploring the sculpture parks at Art Omai, or visiting Olana, the 19th Century home of Hudson River School artist Frederic E. Church.

"Must I tell you that neither the Alps nor the Appenines, nor even Aetna itself, have dimmed, in my eyes, the beauty of our Catskills."- Thomas Cole
