I used to shutter and cringe when I heard the word “Broker.” If ever I uttered the dreaded word to a friend or colleague it was always accompanied with a sigh and an eye roll. After all, I’d had bad experience after bad experience and I had come to think of the “Broker” as a necessary evil one had to deal with if you wanted to live in Manhattan. But then, I met John Barbato. My husband and I were in the process of selling our gut-renovated brownstone triplex with a back yard we loved and were looking for a rental. We wanted to stay on the Upper West Side, we wanted a view, more space, a doorman, and most importantly the right apartment. I didn’t think it was possible nor did I ever imagine that I would actually enjoy apartment hunting, until I met John. John changed everything for me and redefined the word “Broker.” After 15 years of dealing with other “Broker’s,” I had finally found one who is patient, works his arse off (he showed me 30 rentals!), and negotiates well for his clients. He never pushed an apartment on me, and when I’d get discouraged he’d always assure me that we would eventually find the right apartment, and we did! We have since left our rental and purchased an apartment in the Laureate. John was able to get us access in the building when it was impossible to “see” the units. He held my hand and guided me through the condo process all the while steering us to what he knew would be a great apartment and a great investment. He was absolutely right! Now I jump at the chance to use the word “Broker” because that means I can tell people all about John. I get excited to refer friends and colleagues to him because I know they will be as happy working with John as I have been. When we plan to sell our apartment, John will be our first and only call. I can’t recommend him highly enough!
